Welcome back to the Mop-Up! As much as I wish I had the week off, I wasn’t fortunate enough to snag an invite to Mr. Murrey’s men’s retreat. With WWE taking a break, let’s dive into the highlights from this week’s Undisputed League Wrestling.
The Dominance of Bron Breakker:
One thing ULW is nailing so far is how they’re booking Bron Breakker. Breakker was a massive draft acquisition for Cash Mouse Entertainment, and I was curious to see if they’d treat him as the star he’s destined to be. So far, they’ve delivered. Breakker has been demolishing legends like Duxen and Sean Olsen in what are, quite rightly, glorified squash matches. It looks like Sting is next on the list. I have mixed feelings about that because I like Sting and see his potential, but any career resurgence for him is on hold until Breakker’s done bulldozing through him.
Tick Tock:
We’d be fools to overlook the transition music between scenes, especially those involving Jackie Mouse, Ted Dibiase Sr., Bray Wyatt, and Damian Priest. The ongoing story seems to be that Wyatt, after losing Sister Abigail and witnessing the deaths of Mickey and Vinny Mouse, has lost his edge. Meanwhile, Mickey’s soul may have ‘possessed’ Jackie Mouse, though no one seems to notice or take it seriously. I imagine this will culminate around Hallow-Extravaganza—or whatever they end up calling the show that will likely lose to Dynamite 40: Sympathy for the Devil. Jokes aside, I LOVE a good slow-burn story that advances weekly. This is easily one of my favorite angles in the company, second only to the chaos surrounding The Crock, Big Show, Saguna, and Sonjay Dutt.
The Block Party:
Speaking of that crew, we witnessed Show, Saguna, and Dutt partying at what might be the saddest block party ever. It literally took place next to a dumpster, and their music wasn’t even Spotify Premium! Despite the setting, the boys were in high spirits because they FINALLY found a woman to replace Lady Love. Her name? “Lilo,” a nice gal they met on a website that DEFINITELY wasn’t a scam. If that name rings a bell, you’ve got a sharp memory. We’ve met Lilo before, a long, long time ago and, surprise—she happens to be trans. Here’s hoping the guys find love because, trust me, I’ve seen what the post-Lady Love void can do to a man (coughKevin Kelly Big Show Saguna Sonjay Duttcough). Oops, something stuck in my throat there…
The Bunny Hops Along:
One thing I’m hesitant to criticize is Allie’s new character, The Bunny. Having unintentionally killed storylines in the past with my critiques, I’m holding back on going too hard here. The character debuted last week on Animosity by attacking Becky Lynch. There wasn’t anything wrong with the debut per se, but I think they’ve got a lot of work ahead to get the character over. Ideally, The Bunny beats Becky and moves into an International Title program—at least that’s how I would book it. But with her attacking Becky again this week, I’m worried they might not be putting enough effort into this program if the long-term goal is to make her a serious contender. If the plan is just to feed The Bunny to Becky and toss her back into jobber territory, then okay—I’ll retract my criticism. Still, I don’t think Becky needs a “rehab” program. She’s Becky Lynch, after all. She can take a few losses and still pop right back into the main title picture whenever needed. It’s literally why you have superstars of that caliber. Time will tell, and I’m along for the ride either way. Just… switch things up next week, please?
The MEGA Star:
LA Knight is back, and he’s looking better than ever! Ever since last fall, it’s been clear LA Knight was destined to be a major player. Even back then, many (myself included) were pushing for LA Knight to ascend to the main event in PWI. Unfortunately, that was tricky due to Dragonfly’s lengthy title reign, which left Knight in a series of stop-start pushes. He flirted with the main event before joining ULW as Premier Champion, only for that reign to last a mere 18 days due to the injury angle in his feud with Carmelo Hayes. Mystico’s 50-day reign followed.
Now, I get it: They wanted to legitimize the title with Hayes and Mystico, but I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t just go with a long LA Knight reign. That would have solidified the title and then elevated Knight to the Undisputed title scene, where he belongs. Instead, we have two guys better off than they were, and one mega-star in Knight, who’s had to wait longer than anyone hoped for his big moment. It’s not an uncommon problem in wrestling—just look at AEW’s Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, Logan Paul, and Cody Rhodes. Any one of them could be a top star when the company’s ready to pull the trigger. But don’t worry—I’m still stanning for LA Knight, and I’m confident this title reign will last a few months before he inevitably moves up to the main event. At least he’s got plenty of viable contenders to work with before then.
Reap What You Sow:
Friday’s Premier Animosity kicked off with a fun segment involving Alexa Bliss, Nikki Cross, and Ronda Rousey. Alexa found herself face-to-face with Cross in an unfamiliar area. Bliss rejected Cross’s invitation to the dark side and was genuinely confused when Cross ominously warned her, “You’ll reap what you sow,” referencing their days in the Cult of Bliss. “What is she talking about?” Alexa asked herself without a hint of irony after Cross promised revenge. (I see Miss Bliss is entering her “clueless babyface” era) The segment wrapped with some stellar parallel storytelling as Ronda Rousey blindsided Bliss with an attack. Loved it! More of this, please.
