AEW Dark #004 (5.03.24)

As AEW Dark kicks off, Renee Young and Taz can’t contain their excitement as they dive into the aftermath of Monday’s explosive Dynamite episode.

Renee Young: Ladies and gentlemen, what a whirlwind we’ve had since Monday! Dynamite was nothing short of sensational, and the fallout has been seismic!

Taz: Absolutely, Renee! That Board of Directors investigation into Benny Mouse had the wrestling world on edge, and boy, did it deliver!

Renee Young: You’re right, Taz. The verdict was in, and it was damning. Benny Mouse misled investors about his dementia diagnosis and was living the high life on the company’s dime!

Taz: But hold on, Renee! Just when we thought it couldn’t get any crazier, Sami Zayn wheeled out his new wife, the long-lost Megan Mouse!

Renee Young: Talk about a bombshell! Sami wasted no time leveraging his newfound connection, and now he and Benny are running the show together as co-chairmen of BWM Inc.

Taz: And it should be noted that when Sami wheeled out Megan, she was practically in a trance. It’s like something out of a twisted soap opera! But before we move on, Renee, I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring this up… Your name was mentioned in the proceedings. Care to shed some light on that?

Renee pauses, taking a moment to compose herself before responding.

Renee Young: Taz, I appreciate your question, but at this time, I’ve been advised by my legal team to refrain from making any public comments. I’ve signed a nondisclosure agreement, and I’m respecting that.

Taz: Understood, Renee. We respect your decision. It’s definitely a sensitive situation.

Renee Young: Thank you, Taz. I just ask for some privacy during this time. It’s been a challenging period in my life, one that I’ve come to refer to as the ‘dark ages.’ Right now, my focus is on moving forward and continuing to bring the best of myself to the wrestling world.

Taz: Well said, Renee. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

We transition to a brief vignette, opening with a shot of a luxurious ballroom adorned with elegant decorations, including white flowers lit with dim, almost foreboding lighting. The video has a somber tone, with Megan Mouse seated in a wheelchair, her expression vacant and distant. Sami Zayn stands beside her, holding her hand gently his words come through on a pre-recorded voiceover.

Sami Zayn: [voiceover] This Monday, the celebration continues! You’re cordially invited to the reception of Sami Zayn and Megan Mouse!

The camera zooms in on Megan, her expression unchanged as she sits beside Sami.

Sami Zayn: [voiceover] Our bond is unbreakable, and Monday, we’ll celebrate our union. Megan and I have been through a lot, but we believe in giving back to those in need.

Cut to a shot of Sami holding up a sign that reads: “In lieu of gifts, please consider making a donation to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.”

Sami Zayn: [voiceover] Join us in honoring our love and commitment. You won’t want to miss this heartwarming celebration, only on AEW Dynamite. Love conquers all!

The video ends with Sami leaning in to a seated Megan, kissing her tenderly on the forehead, her face frozen and unchanged.

Backstage, Dave Matthews – not to be confused with the popular singer/songwriter – is standing by with the Knockouts Champion, Bianca Belair!

Dave Matthews: Bianca, the return of Miss Athena Star has certainly shaken things up in the Knockouts division. What are your thoughts on her winning the opportunity to challenge for your championship at Retribution?

Bianca Belair: Dave, it’s no secret that I’ve always had the utmost respect for Athena. She’s a trailblazer in this business, and I’ve always wondered what would happen if we went head-to-head. But let’s be real, no disrespect to Athena, but I’m in my prime right now. 2024 has been my year, and I’m operating on a whole ‘nother level.

Dave Matthews: You’ve also made it clear that until you beat Ronda Rousey, you won’t feel like the true champion. What’s your mindset regarding that?

Bianca Belair: I meant what I said. Ronda Rousey is one of the greatest of all time. She never lost this title; circumstances forced her to vacate it. So, of course, there’s a target on my back. But you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. And I know Rousey must be wondering ‘what if’ as well.

Dave Matthews: With that said, what are your plans moving forward?

Bianca Belair: Well, Dave, I owe Ronda Rousey a debt of gratitude. So, even though Athena gets her shot at the title on Memorial Day weekend, I want to give Rousey the opportunity she deserves. So, next Monday on Dynamite, Ronda, if you’re listening, the stage is set. Let’s square up.

With Bianca Belair setting the stage for what promises to be a riveting encounter, the Knockouts division braces itself for the showdown of champions past and present Monday on Dynamite!

Back at ringside, Taz and Renee Young dive into the lineup for Monday’s Dynamite, which they describe as another significant event in the making. They discuss the highly anticipated showdown between Bianca Belair and Ronda Rousey for the Knockouts Championship, as well as the clash between Swerve Strickland and Gunther to determine the number one contender for the TV Title.

Renee Young: And let’s not forget, folks, we’ve all received a special invitation to the wedding reception of BWM Inc.’s new Co-Chairman, Sami Zayn, and Megan Mouse. It’s bound to be a night to remember!

Taz: Absolutely, Renee! Plus, breaking news coming in as we speak: we’re going to see a tag team turmoil match on Monday to decide who will step up and challenge Kenny Omega and Adam Page for the tag team titles at Retribution!

Renee Young: Talk about a stacked card! It’s shaping up to be another can’t-miss show, folks. You definitely want to tune in for all the action and surprises on Monday’s Dynamite!

‘Absolute’ Ricky Starks vs. Sammy Guevara

As Ricky Starks and Sammy Guevara make their way to the ring, Taz and Renee Young provide insight into the history between these two competitors.

Taz: We’ve got ourselves a rematch from a few months back. The last time these two squared off, Starks was the Internet Champion. Of course, he’s since lost that title to Logan Paul.

Renee Young: And speaking of Logan Paul, let’s not forget what happened last week. Paul issued an open challenge, but when Sammy Guevara answered the call, Paul just walked off, claiming Sammy wasn’t in his league.

Taz: Quite the snub, indeed! But tonight, Sammy has the chance to prove Logan wrong and remind everyone why he’s a force to be reckoned with in the ring.

The match kicks off with a burst of energy as Sammy Guevara seizes the initiative, swiftly applying a headlock takeover on Ricky Starks. The two engage in a captivating display of chain wrestling, each competitor showcasing their technical prowess.

Renee Young: Sammy Guevara wasting no time taking control in the early moments of this match!

Taz: That’s right, Renee! Guevara’s got a chip on his shoulder tonight. He wants to prove to the world that he belongs here, especially with Paul’s snub last week and with his former Inner Circle leader Chris Jericho defecting to the WWE.

After a series of back-and-forth exchanges, Sammy gains the upper hand, sending Starks reeling into the corner. With lightning speed, Sammy charges forward, connecting flush with a devastating running knee strike.

Continuing his relentless assault, Sammy follows up with a picture-perfect hurricanrana, sending Starks crashing to the mat.

Renee Young: Incredible athleticism by Guevara! Starks is down, and Sammy’s in control!

As Sammy Guevara ascends to the top rope, anticipation mounts in the arena. With the crowd on the edge of their seats, Sammy takes a deep breath, preparing for the high-risk maneuver.

Taz: He’s going for broke, Renee! This could be a game-changer!

With precision and grace, Sammy executes a breathtaking 450 splash, soaring through the air with unparalleled agility. But at the last possible moment, Ricky Starks manages to roll out of harm’s way, narrowly avoiding disaster.

Seizing the opportunity, Starks capitalizes on Sammy’s missed opportunity, seizing control of the match. With determination etched on his face, Starks drills Sammy with a thunderous piledriver, shaking the ring with the impact.

Starks hooks the leg as the referee slides into position to make the count. But to the surprise of everyone in the arena, Sammy defiantly kicks out at the count of two, refusing to stay down.

Renee Young: Sammy showing incredible resilience, refusing to stay down!

As Starks regroups and goes for a superkick, Sammy reacts with lightning-fast reflexes, catching Starks’s leg and countering with a vicious stepover enziguri that leaves Starks reeling.

As Sammy Guevara regains control of the match, he wastes no time in executing his signature move, the GTH (Go To Hell), sending Ricky Starks crashing to the canvas, knocked out cold.

With Starks incapacitated, Sammy ascends to the top rope once again, a determined look in his eyes.

Renee Young: Last time Sammy attempted a high-risked maneuver it didn’t pay off, he’s gotta be careful here!

Taz: He’s got that look in his eye, Renee. Sammy’s known for his daredevil antics!

Mouthing to the audience that he’s crazy, Sammy takes a leap of faith, launching himself off the top rope with incredible precision. He executes a flawless shooting star press, connecting perfectly with Starks.

As Sammy hooks the leg, the referee counts the pinfall. The arena erupts as the referee’s hand slaps the canvas for the third time, signaling the end of the match.
