AEW Dynamite #021 (April 15, 2024)

Live from the Houston Toyota Center | Houston, TX | Crowd Size: 19,050

SEGMENT ONE

The opening video airs, the pyro explodes, and Arn Anderson and Kevin Kelly welcome us back for our first episode of Dynamite since New Horizons two weeks ago on Easter Sunday!

Arn Anderson: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to AEW Dynamite! It’s been two weeks since our last episode, and boy, do we have a show for you tonight!

Anderson notes that the playing field looks a little different than it did before New Horizons, as we’ve got a new World Heavyweight Champion in MJF, a new Knockouts Champion in Bianca Belair, and a new Internet Champion in Logan Paul! Tonight, we’ve got a stacked card, with the tag team titles on the line as the Usos defend against the number one contenders Hangman Adam Page and Kenny Omega, and Cody Rhodes is set to defend the Television Championship against Swerve Strickland!

Anderson and Kelly are interrupted as the arena lights dim and the sound of “Metalingus” fills the air. The crowd erupts into a mix of cheers and boos as Benny Mouse, flanked by AEW Director of Operations Sami Zayn and the Acolytes, emerges from backstage. Benny strides confidently down the ramp, a microphone in hand, while Sami and the Acolytes follow closely behind.

Kevin Kelly: That’s right, Arn! But before we dive into the action, it seems we have an unexpected interruption from the boss!

Arn Anderson: We learned late last week that Benny Mouse was going to address the audience, but I didn’t expect him to kick off the show! Benny Mouse makes news every time he’s on our screens, and even more so when he’s live in that ring!

Benny Mouse enters the ring, his presence commanding attention from the audience. He raises the microphone to his lips, ready to address the crowd.

Benny Mouse: Ladies and gentlemen, I stand before you tonight as the Chairman of BWM Inc., and I have some important news to share.

The crowd listens intently as Benny begins to speak.

Benny Mouse: Believe it not, All Elite Wrestling is entering the final stretch of the season. We are heading towards the season finale and our third PPV, Memorial Day weekend for Retribution. It is clear that we are on the precipice of a major shake-up in the industry. It is my great honor to reveal that in addition to AEW Dark, our new weekly streaming show on YouTube, All Elite Wrestling will be adding a second weekly televised broadcast in June to kick off our third season!

Benny paces back and forth, his words carrying weight with the audience.

Benny Mouse: The sixth era is coming to an end, and we’re about to enter the 7th Era – the Benny Mouse Era! I’ve done unspeakable things to get to where I’m at in this industry, and all of that pales in comparison to what I’m willing to do if it comes to it! This is my time, and I won’t be ignored!

Suddenly, the arena goes dark as the opening chords of Blondie’s “Dreaming” echo throughout the arena. The crowd erupts into cheers as Benny’s estranged ex-wife, Molly Mouse, makes her way to the ring. Commentary notes that we haven’t seen Molly since she appeared with Splinter back in January. Sami and the Acolytes initially block Molly from entering, but Benny motions for them to let her through.

Kevin Kelly: Wait a minute, is that Molly Mouse?! What’s she doing here?

Arn Anderson: I’m not sure, Kevin, but I have a feeling we’re about to find out! This just got even more interesting!

Molly enters the ring, her expression serious as she stares down Benny. She holds out her hand, motioning for the microphone. Benny is intrigued by her presence, and slowly hands it over to hear what’s on her mind.

Molly Mouse: Benny, we need to talk. And I need you to listen – to truly hear me.

Molly’s words come out with an emotional force; it’s clear that she’s trying to push past the normal bluster of a wrestling promo to connect with her one-time husband on a deeper level.

Molly Mouse: It took me the better part of a year to locate Megan in the mental institution after you ordered Sami Zayn to have her locked up. When I sent Splinter and the Harlem Turtles to collect her on Easter Sunday, they learned someone else had checked her out. What have you done with our daughter, Benny?

Benny’s expression remains unreadable, as Molly continues to plead with him.

Molly Mouse: Please, Benny. Your desperate bid to retain power in spite of your dementia diagnosis is destroying what’s left of our family. It’s clear you have something sinister planned for Megan. I beg of you, whatever it is, don’t do it.

Benny’s face begins to soften just a bit, Molly’s words are seemingly touching a spot within his soul that no one else has been able to reach.

Molly: (holding back tears) You’re at risk of destroying everything we’ve built together, inside and out of the ring. The last decade has been rough for us, but I know somewhere deep inside is the man I fell in love with two decades ago.

Benny continues to listen intently, as the crowd falls silent. The audience watches, captivated by the emotional scene unfolding before them.

Molly whispers to Benny, her voice barely audible to the live audience and the millions watching at home. Molly’s eyes well up with tears as she continues, her voice trembling with emotion.

Molly: Please, Benny. Resign before the Board of Directors forces you out, and we destroy what’s left of our daughter.

Molly wraps her arms around Benny in a loving embrace; showing her former husband the affection we haven’t seen since the early days of their marriage. Molly’s words hang in the air and Benny’s expression softens as he looks at Molly, a single tear rolling down his cheek.

We barely hear Benny respond that he needs to think about it, as Molly plants a soft kiss on his cheek before exiting the ring. Sami Zayn’s face is concerned, as Benny’s expression is filled with a mixture of regret and trepidation.

Our cameras cut to the locker room of the tag team champions, the Usos, as they are engaged in an animated conversation, frustration evident in their voices as they discuss recent events.

Jimmy Uso: I can’t believe that punk Riddle pulled that stunt during War Games. Breaking the rules just to free Midget Hogan? That’s low, even for him.

Jey Uso: And then that little bastard had the audacity to drop a deuce in our gear bag on AEW Dark! This ain’t right, Uce.

Before they can continue, the imposing figure of Roman Reigns enters the scene, his expression thunderous as he approaches the Usos.

Roman Reigns: What the hell is going on here?

The Usos straighten up immediately, their faces tense as they face their Tribal Chief.

Jimmy Uso: Uh, nothing, Roman. Just talking about… stuff.

Roman Reigns: Stuff? You think I don’t know what’s been going on? I already told Heyman to let it go. We don’t have time for this nonsense.

He glares at them, his tone brooking no argument.

Roman Reigns: It’s time to focus on what’s really important. We got a tag title defense up next, and we need to give it our all. You understand?

The Usos exchange a glance, realizing the gravity of Roman’s words. They nod reluctantly, their defiance melting under his authoritative presence.

Jey Uso: Yeah, Roman. We got it.

Jimmy Uso: We’ll let it go with Midget Hogan… for now. But trust, he’s got it coming sooner or later.

Roman nods, satisfied with their response, before turning to leave. The Usos watch him go, a sense of determination settling over them as they prepare for their upcoming match.

Match #1 | AEW World Tag Team Championship
The Usos (c) vs. ‘Hangman’ Adam Page & Kenny Omega

As the introductions are made, Kevin Kelly and Arn Anderson discuss the recent ascent of Kenny Omega and Adam Page, who originally started in AEW as background characters in support of our former AEW World Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles. Since then, the duo has risen through the tag ranks, recently securing their title shot with a victory over Miz & Morrison.

Kevin Kelly: The tag team titles are on the line as the Usos defend against Hangman Adam Page & Kenny Omega! What an explosive kickoff to Dynamite!

Arn Anderson: This is going to be one hell of a match, folks. Both teams are at the top of their game. And you have to wonder if the Usos are coming into this match with a renewed sense of focus following the harsh words we just heard from the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.

The bell sounds, and the match unfolds with intense back-and-forth action, each team showcasing their skills and determination. The momentum swings from one side to the other, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Arn Anderson: It’s been a seesaw battle so far, neither team willing to give an inch!

Kevin Kelly: Absolutely, this is what the tag division in All Elite Wrestling is all about! Perhaps the most prestigious incarnation of the division in BWM Inc. history.

As the match reaches its climax, tensions rise to a fever pitch. The Usos deliver a devastating double superkick to Kenny Omega, leaving him reeling on the canvas. But before they can capitalize on their advantage, a commotion erupts at ringside.

Kevin Kelly: What the hell is this? That’s Matt Riddle and Hulk Hogan of High Minded! And they’ve got a giant gift box!

Arn Anderson: The referee needs to get them out of here and get this under control!

The referee intervenes, demanding that Hogan and Riddle leave the ringside area. Reluctantly, they comply, but not before leaving behind a large, oversized gift box near the ring apron.

Arn Anderson: What the hell are these stoners up to now?

Kevin Kelly: I have no idea, but I don’t like the look of this, not one bit!

With the distraction momentarily resolved, the Usos turn their attention back to their opponents. But as they prepare to finish off Omega, the unexpected happens. Suddenly, Lady Love bursts out of the oversized box, startling the Usos with her unexpected appearance.

Lady Love removes her top, brandishing her hairy nipples to the tag team champions, much to their dismay. Jey immediately vomits at the site, and Jimmy begins screaming.

Arn Anderson: Oh dear Lord, I was hoping we’d never see those disfigured tits again!

Kevin Kelly: Puppies!!!

The Usos are caught off guard, their focus shattered by the surprise intrusion. Before they can react, Hangman Adam Page gets the tag and seizes the opportunity, flipping over the ropes and delivering a thunderous Buckshot Lariat to both Usos, sending them crashing to the mat.

Arn Anderson: Double Buckshot Lariat! Hangman Adam Page with the cover!

Kevin Kelly: 1… 2… 3!!! We’ve got new champions!

The arena erupts with cheers as Hangman Adam Page & Kenny Omega are declared the new tag team champions, their victory secured amidst the chaos caused by High Minded. The Usos lie defeated in the ring, stunned by the unexpected turn of events.

Winners and NEW AEW World Tag Team Champions: Hangman Adam Page & Kenny Omega

SEGMENT TWO

Backstage, we see the Internet Champion Logan Paul pacing back and forth, a look of frustration etched on his face. The camera widens a bit to reveal Scott Steiner and Wardlow, who appear to be receiving instructions from him.

Logan Paul: Alright, listen up, guys. Tonight’s Championship Celebration for MJF has to be perfect. No screw-ups, got it? Max deserves for this to go off without a hitch.

Scott Steiner: (gruffly) We got it, Logan. But I’m afraid there’s been a slight hiccup.

Wardlow: (nodding) Yeah, the stripper we hired fell through.

Logan’s frustration grows as he hears the news.

Logan Paul: Seriously? Can’t you guys handle anything? You at least got the cake, right?

Steiner and Wardlow exchange uneasy glances, both seemingly expecting the other to have resolved the issue.

Scott Steiner: Uh, well, we didn’t want to risk any… surprises. You know, after what happened with that cake in the PWI.

Wardlow: Yeah, better safe than sorry.

Logan sighs, realizing he’ll have to take matters into his own hands.

Logan Paul: Fine. But tell me, did someone at least remember to pick up balloons or streamers?

Steiner and Wardlow look at each other, their expressions shifting to ones of panic.

Scott Steiner: Uh…

Wardlow: I thought you were gonna…

Logan cuts them off, exasperated.

Logan Paul: Unbelievable. You two don’t share a single brain cell, do you?

Scott Steiner, ever the confident one, tries to defuse the tension.

Scott Steiner: Hey, don’t worry, Logan. I brought the guns.

Logan stares at him incredulously, not understanding the reference.

Logan Paul: What guns? I don’t… Never mind. Forget it.

With a frustrated shake of his head, Logan Paul turns on his heel and walks away, muttering to himself.

Logan Paul: If I want something done right, I’ll have to do it myself. These guys…

Meanwhile, Scott Steiner continues to flex his muscles proudly, oblivious to Logan’s exasperation.

The camera stealthily peers through the partially opened door of Brock Lesnar’s locker room, capturing an intense scene unfolding inside. Brock Lesnar is in the midst of a heated argument with his former advocate, Paul Heyman. The room is in disarray, with furniture overturned and tension thick in the air.

Brock Lesnar: (frustrated, flipping over a chair) I can’t believe you, Paul! You gave up on me so easily!

Paul Heyman: (attempting to reason with Brock) Brock, I looked everywhere for you after Genesis. I even put up missing posters. I couldn’t find you.

Brock’s anger simmers, his gaze piercing as he confronts Heyman.

Brock Lesnar: (accusingly) And then you go and offer your services to Roman Reigns and the Bloodline? You betrayed me, Paul!

Paul Heyman: (defensive) What was I supposed to do, Brock? Wait for you forever? I had to move on.

Brock Lesnar: (fuming) You should’ve had my back, Paul! That’s what you promised!

He demands an answer from Heyman, his voice filled with frustration and disappointment.

Brock Lesnar: Are you coming back to work for me now that I’m back?

Paul Heyman: (hesitant) Brock, I’m afraid it’s not that simple. I’m the Special Counsel for Roman Reigns now. I can’t just leave that arrangement. Once you’re in the Bloodline, you’re in it for life.

Brock’s anger flares, his fists clenched in frustration. He punches the wall behind Heyman’s head, putting a hole in the drywall.

Brock Lesnar: (irate) Your betrayal is unbelievable, Paul! You made promises to me, and I expect you to keep your word!

Before Heyman can offer further explanation, Brock abruptly storms out of the room, his rage palpable. As he exits, he shoves the cameraman aside, leaving chaos in his wake.

Match #2 | Exhibition Match
Brock Lesnar vs. Vader

The crowd is on their feet for the introductions, as commentary notes that this is Brock Lesnar’s first televised match since AEW Genesis. The camera pans to the ring where Vader stands, a formidable opponent, but one who appears dwarfed by the presence of The Beast Incarnate.

Kevin Kelly: I’m excited for this, we’re going to witness Lesnar’s first singles match since Genesis, and his first post-Heyman appearance!

Arn Anderson: That’s right, Kevin. The situation between Lesnar and his former advocate Paul Heyman, as we just saw, is tumultuous at best. This match could be Lesnar’s outlet for his frustrations.

The bell rings, and the match begins. Brock Lesnar wastes no time asserting his dominance, unleashing a relentless assault on Vader. He delivers thunderous blows, each one seemingly more punishing than the last.

Kevin Kelly: Oh, my goodness! Brock Lesnar is absolutely manhandling Vader in there!

Arn Anderson: I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone treat Vader like he’s a cruiserweight! This isn’t a match, Kevin. This is a statement. Lesnar is sending a message loud and clear.

Lesnar hoists Vader effortlessly into the air, executing one devastating F-5 after another, each one shaking the ring with its force. Vader is left battered and helpless, unable to mount any offense against the onslaught.

Kevin Kelly: (in disbelief) It’s like watching a lion toy with its prey. Brock Lesnar is decimating Vader!

As Lesnar delivers the final blow, the crowd erupts in a mix of awe and shock. The referee calls for the bell, signaling the end of the match. Lesnar stands tall in the ring, his dominance unquestionable.

Arn Anderson: (reflecting) That was brutal, Kevin. Brock Lesnar made a statement tonight, and Vader was the unfortunate recipient.

As Lesnar celebrates his victory, the arena darkens, and the crowd’s attention is drawn to the entrance ramp where Darby Allin emerges.

Darby Allin: (into the mic) Lesnar, I was willing to let things slide, but you just couldn’t resist sticking your nose where it didn’t belong. You want to play dirty? Well, so can I.

With those words, the arena erupts as Sting descends from the rafters, wielding his signature baseball bat. The Icon charges into the ring, swinging the bat with ferocity, targeting a stunned Brock Lesnar.

Kevin Kelly: (excitedly) It’s Sting! The Icon has arrived, and he’s leveling the playing field against Brock Lesnar!

Arn Anderson: (in awe) This is chaos, Kevin! Absolute chaos!

Officials rush to the ring, desperately trying to separate Sting and Lesnar, but the melee continues unabated. The scene descends into chaos as Sting and Lesnar trade blows, the intensity of their confrontation electrifying the arena before they are finally pulled apart!

Winner: Brock Lesnar
Match Time: 5:56

SEGMENT THREE

Backstage, AEW correspondent and the co-voice of AEW Dark, Renee Young is standing by ready to interview the newly crowned AEW Knockouts Champion, Bianca Belair. The atmosphere is charged with excitement as fans eagerly await Belair’s first words following her monumental victory at New Horizons.

Renee Young: (smiling) Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here with the new AEW Knockouts Champion, Bianca Belair! Bianca, congratulations on your incredible victory against Sasha Banks at New Horizons!

Bianca stands tall, the championship belt draped over her shoulder, radiating confidence and pride.

Bianca Belair: (grinning) Thank you, Renee! It feels amazing to stand here as the champion, especially after all the hard work and dedication I’ve put into this journey.

Renee Young: (nodding) Absolutely! And speaking of your journey, let’s talk about the pivotal moment in your match where Ronda Rousey made her presence felt, taking out Chyna and leveling the playing field. How do you feel about Rousey’s involvement in your victory?

Bianca’s expression turns thoughtful as she considers her response.

Bianca Belair: (grateful) Ronda’s help was instrumental, Renee. I owe her a debt of gratitude for stepping in when I needed it most. If she wants a shot at this championship, all she has to do is name the time and the place. I’ll be ready.

Suddenly, the atmosphere shifts as Chyna emerges from the shadows, launching a surprise attack on Bianca Belair. The ambush catches Belair off guard, but she quickly retaliates, ready to defend herself.

Renee Young: (alarmed) Oh my! It looks like Chyna isn’t finished yet!

As the altercation intensifies, Sasha Banks appears, seizing the opportunity to confront Bianca Belair. She wastes no time in taunting her rival, claiming that her victory was nothing more than a stroke of luck.

Sasha Banks: (smirking) You got lucky, Bianca! But let’s face it, luck runs out. I’m coming for that championship, and you better believe I’m the rightful number one contender.

Just when it seems tensions are at their peak, Ronda Rousey storms onto the scene, coming to Bianca’s aid once more. The sight of Rousey’s arrival forces Sasha and Chyna to rethink their attack, and they quickly retreat, leaving Bianca and Ronda standing tall.

Ronda Rousey: (determined) You want a rematch, Sasha? You’ll have to go through me first. And as for you, Chyna, you’ve picked the wrong fight. The era of intimidation ends now.

The scene ends with Belair regaining her composure, again owing a debt of gratitude to the former Knockouts Champion Ronda Rousey!

In Benny Mouse’s office, tension fills the air as Sami Zayn, the Director of Operations, stands opposite Benny Mouse, the Chairman of BWM Inc. Sami’s expression is one of disbelief and concern, while Benny appears conflicted, his gaze fixed on the floor.

Sami Zayn: (exasperated) Benny, you’re not actually considering this, are you?

Benny remains silent for a moment, contemplating Sami’s question before finally meeting his gaze.

Benny Mouse: (sighing) What if Molly is right, Sami? What if I’m not fit to lead anymore?

Sami’s disbelief is palpable as he shakes his head in frustration.

Sami Zayn: (urgently) Benny, your medication has things under control. You haven’t had an episode in over a month! You’ve got plenty of good years ahead of you. You can’t let Molly’s pleas cloud your judgment!

He steps closer to Benny, his tone growing more urgent.

Sami Zayn: (imploring) Think about everything we’ve built together, Benny. We’ve come too far to throw it all away because your ex-wife asked nicely. What if this is just a ploy from Mickey Mouse or Jeff Murrey to weaken us? Have you even considered that?

Benny’s brow furrows in contemplation as he weighs Sami’s words.

Benny Mouse: (softly) That’s a compelling argument, Sami. I did just declare this the Benny Mouse Era… But what if I’m leading us down the wrong path?

Sami’s frustration boils over as he shakes his head, unable to hide his disappointment.

Sami Zayn: (firmly) You need to snap out of it, Benny. Do I need to remind you of who you are? Did you ever get anywhere in this business by listening to other people? Besides, we’ve got a contingency plan in motion! If you’re backing out, you need to tell me now. Once we do this, there’s no turning back. And, it was your idea!!

Benny nods solemnly, understanding the gravity of the situation as he meets Sami’s gaze with determination.

Benny Mouse: (resolutely) I’ll consider our options, Sami. But I need time to think.

Sami nods, though his expression remains guarded, knowing that time is of the essence.

Sami Zayn: (firmly) She’s in your head, Benny…

Sami leans in, almost whispering.

Sami Zayn: We’re in this together. But I won’t hesitate to move forward if you can’t make the tough call when it counts.

With a final nod, Sami turns to leave, slamming the door behind him. Benny is left alone in his office to wrestle with his decision.

Match #3 | Exhibition Match
The Elite (Miz & Morrison) vs. The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens)

As the Elite stand in the center of the ring, ready for the match, the Acclaimed’s music hits and Max Caster leads the charge, commanding the audience’s attention with his freestyle rap verses.

Max Caster: Yo, listen!
Acclaimed droppin’ bars, it’s a sensation
Miz and Morrison, y’all need a vacation
Think you’re A-List? D-List, maybe
We signed with AEW over WWE because we don’t wanna work for a lady.

The crowd gasp at Caster’s slam, directed towards Miss Elizabeth’s recent stock acquisitions in Endeavor/Murrey Entertainment.

Max Caster: Miz & Morrison, you say you’re the Elite
Former PWI tag champions, that whole company puts us to sleep.
We shine bright, we’re illuminated.
We’ll bury you lower than Joe Biden’s approval ratings!

Max hands off the microphone to Anthony Bowens.

Anthony Bowens: Houston!!! The Acclaimed have arrived!

Bowens drops the mic, causing a thud as it hits the floor. They slide under the ropes and into the ring, and the four men immediately get to work. As the bell rings, signaling the start of the match, the Acclaimed waste no time getting down to business. Max Caster and Anthony Bowens lay into Miz and Morrison with a flurry of punches, catching them off guard.

Arn Anderson: And here we go, folks! The Acclaimed making quite the entrance, both literally and figuratively!

Kevin Kelly: Absolutely, Arn! Miz and Morrison are getting a taste of what it means to face off against these rising stars in AEW!

Inside the ring, Caster and Morrison engage in a fast-paced exchange of holds and strikes, each trying to gain the upper hand. Outside, Bowens and Miz exchange heated words, setting the stage for their eventual showdown.

Arn Anderson: Look at the intensity on the faces of Bowens and Miz! You can feel the tension building with every move they make!

Kevin Kelly: This is high-stakes action, Arn! Both teams are hungry for the win, and they’re pulling out all the stops to secure it!

As the match progresses, Bowens and Miz find themselves in the ring together. The tension between them reaches its peak as they square off, but a momentary lapse in communication between Miz and Morrison proves to be their downfall.

Arn Anderson: Uh-oh, it looks like Miz and Morrison are having some trouble getting on the same page!

Kevin Kelly: That’s right, Arn! And here comes Bowens with an opening!

With Miz distracted, Bowens seizes the opportunity, hoisting him up into position for the Critically Acclaimed. Caster joins in, delivering the finishing blow. The crowd erupts as the referee counts the pinfall.

Kevin Kelly: It’s over! The Acclaimed have done it! What a debut here tonight on AEW Dynamite!

Arn Anderson: That’s right, Kevin! Miz and Morrison underestimated the Acclaimed, and they paid the price!

Winners: The Acclaimed
Match Time: 10:39

SEGMENT FOUR

The scene opens in the locker room, where members of High Minded are gathered, including Hulk Hogan, Matt Riddle, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Randy Savage, and their manager, Midget Hogan.

Riddle: (addressing Hulk Hogan) Hey, Hulkster, are you gonna do something about your boy pooping in the Uso’s bag last weekend?

Hulk Hogan: (exasperated) Brother, I’ve told you a million times, Midget Hogan ain’t my son! He’s just a little dude who happens to dig the Hogan gimmick.

Riddle: (turning to Midget Hogan) Is this true, little dude?

Midget Hogan: (nodding) Yeah, brother. I just roll with the gimmick, man.

Riddle: (scratching his head) Alright, fair enough.

Nash: (interrupting) Enough with the poop talk, boys! We’ve got bigger issues to deal with.

Hall: Yeah, like the fact that we barely made it out of War Games in one piece.

Savage: Ooh, yeah! The Bloodline ain’t gonna take that lying down, dig it?

Nash: Exactly! And that stunt with Lady Love earlier? It cost the Usos the tag titles!

Riddle: (trying to diffuse the tension) Hey, guys, let’s all just chill out. I’ve got just the thing to calm our nerves. (pulls out a bong)

Nash: (angrily) Weed, Riddle? Seriously?

Hall: (nodding in agreement) Yeah, man, that ain’t gonna solve our problems.

Nash: (gesturing to Hall) Come on, Bad Guy, let’s get outta here before we catch a contact high.

Hall and Nash storm out of the locker room, leaving the rest of the group behind.

Midget Hogan: (eyeing the bong) Hey, can I hit that?

Riddle: (grinning) Sure thing, little dude. Just don’t bogart it!

The scene fades out with Midget Hogan reaching for the bong, as the remaining members of High Minded share a laugh.

Match #4 | AEW Television Championship
The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Swerve Strickland

The anticipation is palpable as Cody Rhodes and Swerve Strickland stand face to face in the ring, ready to battle for the AEW TV Championship. The referee signals for the bell, and the match begins with a traditional collar-and-elbow tie-up, each competitor jockeying for position.

Kevin Kelly: And here we go, folks! Cody Rhodes putting his TV title on the line against the dynamic Swerve Strickland!

Arn Anderson: This is what it’s all about, Kevin. Two top-tier athletes vying for championship gold. This is where legends are made.

Kevin Kelly: Absolutely, Arn. And Swerve Strickland is riding on a wave of momentum after defeating the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles!

Arn Anderson: That’s a fair point, but Cody Rhodes also has a victory over our current AEW World Heavyweight Champion, MJF!

The opening moments of the match see a technical showcase, with both men executing a variety of wrestling holds and counters. Cody targets Swerve’s arm with expertly applied arm bars and wrist locks, while Swerve responds with lightning-fast transitions and escapes.

Kevin Kelly: Look at the technical proficiency on display here, Arn! Cody Rhodes and Swerve Strickland are putting on a clinic!

Arn Anderson: Absolutely, Kevin. These two know every inch of that ring, and they’re using it to their advantage.

As the match progresses, the intensity ramps up. Swerve gains momentum with a rapid-fire combination of strikes, utilizing his speed and agility to keep Cody off balance. Cody, however, demonstrates his ring IQ by grounding Swerve with a well-executed snap suplex followed by a knee drop to the sternum.

Kevin Kelly: Swerve Strickland with the quick strikes, but Cody Rhodes is all about control and precision!

Arn Anderson: That’s the hallmark of a seasoned veteran, Kevin. Cody’s not just looking to win; he’s looking to dominate.

The ebb and flow of the contest continues, with each competitor showcasing their unique offense. Swerve delivers a stunning tornado DDT off the ropes, only for Cody to respond with a classic dropkick that sends Swerve crashing to the canvas.

Kevin Kelly: What action we’re seeing here tonight, Arn! These two are leaving it all in the ring!

Arn Anderson: That’s the AEW way, Kevin. No shortcuts, no half-measures. It’s all about competition at its finest.

As the match nears its conclusion, both competitors dig deep, unleashing their most potent weapons. Swerve locks in a tight guillotine choke, threatening to force Cody to submit, but Cody manages to power out and hoist Swerve onto his shoulders for the Cross Rhodes.

Kevin Kelly: Cross Rhodes! Can Cody capitalize?

Cody executes the Cross Rhodes with precision, but Swerve somehow manages to kick out just before the three-count. The crowd erupts with disbelief as the match continues.

Arn Anderson: Unbelievable resilience from Swerve Strickland! He’s not going down without a fight!

The battle rages on, with both men trading near falls and countering each other’s signature moves. In the end, it’s Cody who secures the victory with a roll-up pin after a hard-fought exchange!

Kevin Kelly: Cody Rhodes picks up the win in a hard-fought battle! What a contest, Arn!

Arn Anderson: Indeed, Kevin. Swerve Strickland pushed Cody to the limit, but tonight, the TV Champion reigns supreme. Cody’s Open Challenge almost ended with his first defense, but he survives to fight another day!

As Cody celebrates his hard-earned victory, the crowd showers both competitors with applause, recognizing the incredible display of athleticism and skill they’ve just witnessed.

Winner: Cody Rhodes
Match Time: 24:40

As Swerve Strickland stands in the center of the ring, visibly frustrated yet composed, Cody Rhodes rises to his feet, the wear and tear of the grueling match evident on his face. Swerve approaches Cody, seemingly poised for confrontation, but then, to the surprise of everyone in attendance, he extends his hand in a gesture of sportsmanship.

Kevin Kelly: What a turn of events, Arn! Swerve Strickland showing incredible sportsmanship here tonight!

Arn Anderson: Indeed, Kevin. Swerve may have come up short, but he’s proving himself to be a true competitor in defeat.

Cody, showing respect for Swerve’s gesture, accepts the handshake, acknowledging Swerve’s resilience and skill in the ring. As Swerve exits the ring, the arena lights suddenly flicker and dim, plunging the arena into darkness.

Kevin Kelly: Wait a minute, what’s happening here?

Arn Anderson: I’m not sure, Kevin, but something doesn’t feel right.

Suddenly, the arena erupts with boos and jeers as Gunther, the WWE European Champion, emerges from the darkness, his title draped over his shoulder. Without hesitation, Gunther charges into the ring and unleashes a vicious assault on Cody Rhodes, using his championship belt as a weapon.

Kevin Kelly: Good lord! Gunther is decimating Cody Rhodes with that European Championship!

Arn Anderson: This is despicable, Kevin! Gunther has no business interfering in an AEW match like this!

Gunther shows no mercy as he continues his relentless assault, leaving Cody battered and bloodied in the center of the ring. With a look of disdain, Gunther tosses the WWE European Championship into the trash, symbolizing his utter contempt for the title.

Kevin Kelly: Gunther has just discarded the European Championship like yesterday’s garbage!

Arn Anderson: And now he’s eyeing Cody’s AEW TV Championship! This is unprecedented!

With a sinister grin, Gunther retrieves Cody’s AEW TV Championship from the canvas and hoists it high above his head, asserting his dominance over the AEW landscape. As chaos reigns in the arena, Kevin Kelly and Arn Anderson can only speculate on the implications of Gunther’s shocking actions.

Kevin Kelly: Folks, don’t go anywhere! Up next is the Championship Celebration for MJF, and who knows what other surprises await us here tonight on AEW Dynamite!

The camera pans over the vibrant decorations adorning the ring, featuring MJF’s signature plaid colors, as Logan Paul steps into the spotlight, flanked by Scott Steiner and Wardlow. The crowd erupts with a mix of cheers and jeers as they anticipate the Championship Celebration.

Logan Paul: Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the moment we’ve all been waiting for! If you thought Easter Sunday was all about bunnies and chocolate eggs, think again! Because on that glorious day, a new king was crowned in the world of professional wrestling! And that king… is none other than the man who is Better Than You and you know it, Maxwell Jacob Friedman!

The crowd’s reaction intensifies as Logan Paul builds up the anticipation for MJF’s grand entrance. Suddenly, the arena lights dim, and MJF’s entrance music hits, signaling his arrival. The audience erupts into a mix of cheers and boos as MJF makes his way to the ring, his newly won championship belt gleaming in the spotlight.

Logan Paul: Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the man of the hour, the new AEW World Champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman!

As MJF stands proudly in the center of the ring, Logan Paul gestures to the giant screen above the entrance ramp, prompting MJF to turn his attention to the tron. The screen lights up with a grainy video shot on a cellphone, showing Lenny Mouse, MJF’s devoted fan, celebrating wildly in the streets of New Jersey.

Logan Paul: Look at that, MJF! Your number one fan, Lenny Mouse, is partying like there’s no tomorrow! He knows that with you as champion, the future of AEW has never looked brighter!

The crowd’s cheers grow louder as they watch the heartwarming scene unfold on the tron. MJF, with a hint of pride in his eyes, nods in approval before turning his attention back to Logan Paul, ready to bask in the glory of his Championship Celebration.

As MJF takes hold of the microphone, the arena falls silent, eagerly awaiting his words. He nods appreciatively at Logan Paul before addressing the audience.

MJF: Thank you, Logan, for putting together this celebration. And you’re right, I do deserve it.

The crowd erupts into cheers as MJF acknowledges his own greatness. Logan Paul nods in agreement, showing his admiration for the new World Champion.

Logan Paul: Absolutely, MJF. You’re the top dog around here now.

Logan then turns to MJF with a question, a curious expression on his face.

Logan Paul: So, MJF, how does it feel to be the only World Champion in the industry who wasn’t already a star before this era?

MJF smirks confidently, reveling in the spotlight as he prepares to deliver his response.

MJF: It feels damn good, Logan. Unlike those washed-up has-beens like Dragonfly and The Rock, I earned this championship on my own merit. And if either of them got a problem with that, they can come see me at Starrcade.

Before MJF can continue, the arena is suddenly filled with the ominous sounds of the Tribal Chief’s entrance music. Roman Reigns, accompanied by Paul Heyman, makes his way to the ring, his presence commanding attention.

Paul Heyman: Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the true uncrowned World Champion, Roman Reigns!

Heyman’s words are met with a mixed reaction from the audience, but MJF remains unfazed, his confidence unwavering.

MJF: Oh, look who decided to crash the party. Listen, Roman, around here, you don’t just waltz in and demand a title shot. You’ve got to earn it. And as far as I’m concerned, you haven’t beaten anyone worthy of stepping into the ring with me.

Roman steps forward, his gaze locked onto MJF, a simmering intensity emanating from him.

Roman Reigns: Talk all the trash you want, MJF. But know this: The Bloodline is coming for that belt, and there’s nothing you can do to stop us. With my cousin, The Rock, dominating WWE and me gunning for the AEW belt, we’re stronger than ever.

MJF scoffs.

MJF: How you can even say that with a straight face when your boys lost the tag belts tonight is laughable!

Suddenly, the tension in the ring escalates as the Usos, Yokozuna, and Umaga emerge from the crowd and surround the ring, ready to strike. Without hesitation, they launch their attack, targeting MJF, Logan Paul, and their associates.

The chaos unfolds as the show comes to a close, with Roman Reigns standing tall amidst the wreckage, his dominance unquestionable. Arn Anderson and Kevin Kelly, on commentary, remark on Roman’s formidable presence, declaring him a true force to be reckoned with in the world of professional wrestling! The scene fades with Roman eyeing the world championship!
