Following Monday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Director of Operations Sami Zayn has released the following statement:
It’s unfortunate that I have to even dignify the recent allegations about Benny Mouse’s health with a response, but given the nature of what happened Monday, I’m sure the weekend pundits are going to attempt to twist what we saw to fit the narrative that Benny Mouse is experiencing some type of cognitive decline. As I have said repeatedly since Splinter’s slanderous campaign began, and as Benny said himself days ago, he is in 100 percent control over his companies, subsidiaries, and his faculties.
What we saw Monday was a mixture of technical difficulties and nerves, nothing more, nothing less. Benny Mouse opted to use a teleprompter for his address due to the gravity of the allegations. Unlike the hundreds of other times over the past 27 years that Benny spoke on a live microphone, he opted to use the teleprompter to make sure nothing was left unsaid. Again, given the gravity of the allegations made against him, it makes perfect since that Benny would want to get his words just right for the most important address he’s ever given. Unfortunately, as it so often does, the technology failed when it was needed the most, and caused the reaction we saw from the Chairman. The feed was cut quickly so we could fix the teleprompter, but unfortunately due to commentary’s baseless assumptions immediately following the address, the damage had already been done by the time our crew repaired the teleprompter.
Ahead of any sort of recap from Lenny, Benny’s jealous and vindictive brother, I wanted to clear the air about what happened to hopefully nip the rumors in the bud. Please keep in mind that Lenny Mouse, like Splinter, has an agenda to push. And unfortunately, it appears to be working as we’ve seen jokes made about Benny’s health in the wrestling media, and on AEW and WWE programming. And though Benny would normally relish in being the center of attention, we simply cannot continue to allow these baseless accusations to go unchallenged.
Please do not fret, these allegations will not distract from what Benny Mouse and I do best – and that’s put on the best weekly episodic wrestling program in the industry. We will continue to do so next Monday night, and I will be releasing additional details surrounding next week’s program in the coming days.
Thank you and God Bless,
Sincerely,
AEW Director of Operations
Samuel Zayn
