A Midget Quest with Thomas, Chapter 4: AEW brings 2025 to a close
Hey there! Wrestling’s third most absent columnist here (looking at you, Hyatte and Cross), and we all know why…
…anyways, I have been asked to talk about AEW’s most recent event and offer my predictions for what is airing tonight.
So, let’s give my segment-by-segment reaction!
To kick off the show, we get Doc Brown scheming aloud to himself about his newfound arch-nemesis in Paul “Hey-Man”. I absolutely love this shit, and I am beyond happy for myself and all of the wrestling audience with more than 3 brain cells that you get to hear ME react to Brown rather than Anthony going forward!
Doc was funny, as per usual, and this segment only got better when Bossman walked into the scene to warn Brown about his labs being set up in the back area. Brown agreed to stop with the labs, but only because he has supposedly removed any further need for this. I can’t wait until we see who was on the other end of the line with Brown…AND I love the running gag about Bossman and Amick being the same person.
From there, we move on to see Paul Heyman and Sean Olson visiting the ashes of what used to be the Olson/Lee household. As Heyman tightens his grip around the future of Olson, I can’t help but grow ever-more excited for what this means for both men in the near future. Moreover, the possibilities of what this could mean for Lee by default also generates legitimate excitement for me.
Olson and Lee’s real swan song waits somewhere around the corner, but this journey right now is absolutely worthwhile! Olson has been supercharged by Heyman’s placement by his side, and I think the proof is in the pudding here.
After the opening video package, we see the TV Champion Logan Paul come out to the ring to bury the locker room, but this quickly backfires as Splidder seemingly answers the open challenge. Logan thinks he has reason to die laughing, but Splidder soon reveals that Logan is next on the list of the Remnant’s guilty targets. After Logan is decimated by the Remnant, Splidder unveils that Brodie Lee is the real challenger, and we get a brief match wherein Brodie leaves with the gold!
Great stuff all around here. At first, I thought we were just going to get a beat down, but I knew it was over for Logan the moment Splidder introduced Brodie. Logan is a great addition to the AEW locker room, but Brodie greatly benefits from this, as does the Remnant. Awesome start to the show!
Following the commercial break, we return and see Shocker respond to what we just saw. He announces that Logan will get a rematch for the gold inside of a steel cage to keep the Remnant out of the affair. Before slating this match, he briefly touched on the issue of Splidder being changed ever since everything that happened to him in ULW. This is quickly becoming my favorite part of the show. The Rat Saga may even be competitive with the Mouse Saga soon, at this rate!
Next, we see a fun little segment with Toni Storm hosting her opponents (Lynch and Cargill) in a quasi-interview segment. Toni simply steals the show every single time she is on the screen. This was no exception, and I especially loved how she addressed Sasha Banks along the way. Is this a possible set up for Starrcade??? Time will tell!
In the Main Event of the evening, we see an Opportunity Match wherein Jay White topples Swerve and Bryan Danielson to earn a shot at the AEW title tonight! This was a great match and a fun way to end the show. But, now we move on to our predictions for tonight’s show!
Opening “Violent Night” is a 5 on 5 No DQ Elimination Tag Match pitting Hash and the Flex Squad against High-Minded. Considering the stipulations, I won’t be surprised to see team Hash win. This is because I can absolutely see Hash bring in yet another ally to help defeat High-Minded. This story will push forward into 2026, and I have no complaints with that.
Will Lady Love return? I can see it happening in the final encounter, but not as likely here.
Next is the aforementioned rematch for Logan Paul and Brodie Lee inside the cage. The Remnant is banned from ringside, but it is EXTREMELY unlikely that Logan just recaptures the title. Brodie is fully capable of winning this without help, and I think that’s what we will see after a beaten and bruised Logan gives us a solid effort.
Following the match, though, I can see a scenario where Logan gets his ass kicked by the Remnant yet again. We will see, though.
Finally, in the main event, Will Ospreay will 100% retain his title over Jay White. This is only because Ospreay is still freshly getting acclimated to being champion. He is far more likely to lose to the winner of the Elite Warfare match than he is to White. Now, perhaps White loses here and then goes on to win the Elite Warfare match later to then unseat Ospreay next year.
Either way, I am very excited for this show!
What’s happening over here in ULW? Well, directly competing with AEW’s year-ending broadcast will be a special installment of “Liberation”.
At “Liberation”, we are set to hear from someone in the Administration, and with the tournament qualification phase concluded, the stage will be set for next week’s year-ending “Merry Massacre”.
Two matches are slated to occur. First of all, we will see a bout to determine the first challengers for Bron Breakker’s Tag Team Titles at “Merry Massacre” as Dark Order and SCU battle it out for the title shot in question!
In the main event, Brock Anderson will defend the Providence Championship against Raphael and Bron Breakker in a triple threat match!
Keep in mind that ULW will proceed with one more show before the end of the year with a special Christmas Eve special of Ascendant! In that show, we will see even more groundwork laid for “Merry Massacre” with opportunities for the Ascendant Class to get seen to conclude 2025 in style!
Until our next chapter this has been Thomas and you can fight the wall!
