Mission in Waiting: Extreme Aggression on August 12th

Mission in Waiting – The Impending Episode of Extreme Aggression (8.12.24)

Well, I guess that I didn’t succeed in posting this by morning. Oh well.

With another week in the most competitive summer this industry has seen in 20 years looming, I bring to you a preview of the card for the next episode of “Extreme Aggression”, set to air tomorrow night!

Kevin Owens v. Granddaddy Duxen

A familiar rivalry which began a couple of years ago – much like the Punk/Hash feud -, Owens has been very clear over time about his disdain for the veteran and his propensity for taking valuable TV time from younger talent like him. Even so, Owens has had a stellar year (being a contender for all three world championships in the span of seven months) and while Duxen hasn’t had a terrible year…he hasn’t experienced the level of prestige that we have seen with Owens.

In fact, we haven’t seen much from Duxen since Armageddon 4, and now he has a chance to bounce back and put himself back into the world title conversation. The man who holds the record for longest world title reign of all time goes against the man who practically launched a rocket to himself at Duxen’s expense. Duxen holds a victory over Owens already, but nothing is a give-in. This will be an incredible way to kick off the show!

AJ Lee v. Nikki Bella

When the women decided Jade Cargill’s first challenger of the era, Nikki Bella was one of those who thought that she was headed for another shot at being on top. However, following the still-mysterious attack by Living Dead Girl, AJ Lee came out on top of that…even if she ultimately lost to Cargill.

Since the attack, Akosha has been on the warpath with Living Dead Girl, Beth Phoenix has been sidelined, and Nikki Bella has made it her mission to exact revenge on Lee for benefiting from LDG’s actions and then reasserting herself as the next big threat for the champion.

Lee appears to be lost in all of this, which is not something she is used to. For the past few years she has been in the driver’s seat of her own madness; starting with her obsession for Athena Star and then the obsession for Becky Lynch which culminated in a clean victory over the multi-time champion. That victory at Armageddon skyrocketed Lee’s stock and put her square in the middle of the talks of who could lead the business in this era.

Lee may not have immediately captured the gold (let’s face it, Cargill is no easy opponent to defeat), but she remains in the picture, and Bella is well aware of this and knows that the path to putting herself back into focus goes through AJ Lee.

Tag Team Title Match: Proud N’ Powerful defends against Little Man & Big Man

Santana and Ortiz have had a remarkable past couple of years. One of very few tag teams to hold titles in multiple companies, their latest achievement came as a bit of a shock as they capitalized on the war between the former champions – the Young Bucks – and the Bludgeon Brothers to steal the gold from under them. Since being champions is something this duo is familiar with, they should have no problem defending the gold successfully.

Except…their opponents are one of the most celebrated tag teams in all of wrestling history: Saguna and Big Show…Little Man & Big Man. Even before the two of them paired in 2003, they were both accomplished in tag team wrestling. Saguna was one half of the first ever Lightheavyweight Tag Team Champions alongside his ex-wife (Molly), won it with her again more than 3 years later and held the titles for more than six months, and then won the titles one more time with Y2Bitch (who later became an HCW official). His title reigns were impressive, but Big Show himself held six tag team titles in his own right alongside partners such as Giant Gonzales, Jesse Ventura, and the Big Bossman.

What’s crazy is that the ONLY tag title reign of Little Man & Big Man came on January 12th, 2004, and ended a mere 4 days later. While Big Show tried to recapture the magic four years later by partnering with Sonjay Dutt in EWA, it went nowhere. Neither Saguna nor Big Show have held gold since they lost the titles over 20 years ago, and you can guarantee that they are going to be seeking a little redemption tomorrow night!

Main Event: Extreme Title Match – Jon Moxley defends in an open challenge!

Now, we move on to the main event. Admittedly, this is not as exciting to anticipate as the farewell match for wrestling’s GOAT, but it will be an encounter to look forward to nevertheless. As the Extreme Champion, Jon Moxley has been a solid defender, and his matches have been great as well. Without knowing who his next opponent will be (a stipulation made by Commissioner Keibler), Moxley is heading into this match as blind as a bat.

So, let the predictions begin: who do YOU think will be his challenger? Can Jon retain the belt once again, or will we see yet another shocking title change for the most unpredictable gold in the company?

I suppose we have to tune in to find out!

Until our next Quest, this has been Johnny with yet another mission!
