The Week Starting Today: 3.18.24

Hi everyone and apologies for running late. I had a major clog in my sink which required me to hire a plumber. He and I got into it because he wanted to know why there was “jizz-covered black fur” in the drain. I tried to tell him that a black rat covered in mayo got into my food disposal, but he didn’t believe me. I swear, these assholes need to stop doubting what I tell them! He kept pointing to my cell phone mounted on the counter top with MJF talking to me as evidence of what he was saying and he kept citing what everyone THOUGHT they saw on Asylum, but after I threatened to fire and sue him he shut up and finished the job!

NOW we get to the fun stuff!

WWE

Camden’s Curse (May or May Not Be Orange Cassidy) v. Hook

We don’t have much information as to what we should expect for Raw this week, but what we do have is a promise from Camden Cross to “curse” Murrey with a new Board Member who will deal with a member of the Misfits. Murrey thinks the special guest is Orange Cassidy and has picked Hook to dispatch him. I think Murrey is right, but I feel that this isn’t going to go Hook’s way, probably due to Axel.

Asuka/Rhea

I am quite confident that we will get a follow-up in the build to Not-Mania 2’s Women’s Title match. Rhea shocked the wrestling world last week when she stormed onto the scene and stole Beth’s shot at the gold. She also seemingly joined the Final Judgment. How will Asuka respond?

Lexis King/Bronson Reed

On NXT, I fully expect us to finally see something from the largely quiet Bronson Reed. Thank heavens that Lexis has been so awesome with these vignettes, because if it weren’t for him I would have almost forgot that this program existed.

Drew/Gunther/Priest

Gunther is looking to prove himself against two tough challengers in Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest. I am intrigued by this feud, but it still hasn’t fully captured my imagination yet. However, if Gunther is successful at WrestleNow 2 against to former WWE Champions – which does seem like the way to go -, then that will be a clear sign of who Murrey wants to be the new GUY going forward. Expect some more chaos involving these men this week.

Johnny Lawrence/Ryback/Thomas Griffith

Thomas Ian Griffith found his inner Terry Silver last week and put Johnny Lawrence on notice: get your shit together soon, or you’re out. Meanwhile, Ryback is on the warpath against the crazed celebrity who offered his decrepit mother the pickle a few weeks ago. How will all of this affect Johnny’s focus? Is the mega push of the accidental megastar of this era coming to an end? It will be interesting to see how things shake up between these guys this week.

Rock/Big E

Finally, while nothing was announced involving the world title scene, I have no doubt that the Rock will seek to get revenge for Big E showing him up in epic fashion last week. The challenger finally came into his own at the first place-finishing Raw and we have to know that the Great One has designs on making him pay!

AEW

TV Title: Cody defends against Owens

On to AEW. They have, unlike WWE, offered a slightly detailed preview of what to expect this week. For starters, we learned that Cody Rhodes will return to television to defend his TV Championship against Kevin Owens.

Owens has not been heard from since he lost to AJ Styles eons ago, and I think that he has a 45% chance of either winning the TV Title here or a 55% chance of coming very damn close to doing so. I’d hate to see Owens losing a second title match in a row (as well as having two consecutive major losses), but I also have a hard time believing that Rhodes is going to drop this title against a challenger with no build.

The only reason that I think AEW might have Owens win is that they like to give us a shocking moment from time to time, but I still lean towards Rhodes winning for the reasons that I just mentioned.

Acolytes v. AOP

In a follow-up to the chaos which opened Dynamite last week, Harlem Turtle-allies AOP are set to take on Sami’s hired guns: The Acolytes. This is the first match for the Acolytes since they arrived, and I strongly believe that they will come out on top as a result, especially as they establish themselves as a serious threat to anyone standing up to Sami. Then again, Sami could suffer an embarrassment after Benny told him to get everything under control last week, and one way he could fail Benny is with AOP sneaking away with the win. I favor the Acolytes, but wouldn’t be surprised to see Sami earn yet another scolding from my dementia-ridden brother.

Rousey v. Chyna

Number One: Rousey is winning this, no doubt about that. Unless they plan to drag this program out to the summer (which I give a 25% probability of happening).

Number Two: Chyna is going to dominate this thing and make Rousey look more human than she has ever looked before. Either way, the end game will be seeing Rousey taking on and likely deposing Sasha Banks.

Interview: Danielson/MJF

The effective main event of the evening will be advertised face-to-face interview between the AEW Champion and the real attraction: MJF. Danielson will likely be made to look like the star in this as AEW tries to convince us that this is an even playing field, but we all know who is actually the draw here, and it isn’t a damn “dragon”.

PWI/HCW

MAYHEM

Bam Bam Bigelow v. LA Knight

Bigelow has been tormenting Knight and Crock ever since he shocked everyone the last time Mayhem was on the air. The live shows and Insanity have been Bam Bam’s domain, and the last installment of Insanity last week was no exception (by the way, the final installment was also the highest rated one ever, capping off a week wherein both PWI and HCW finished above 7.3).

Knight demanded this match to get even with Bigelow and the two will kick off the show. Will he be successful in getting the job done, or does Bigelow still run this shit?

Tag Titles: Young Bucks defend against YMCA

The Tag Team Division has seen a lot of movement over the past few weeks as the Young Bucks have reigned supreme. B-Rad and T. Page are ready to capitalize on their first place rank in the interpromotional tag division to steal their first tag titles in over ten years, but are the Young Bucks going to let that happen? Tune in to see!

Extreme Title: The “Hero” Crock defends against R Truth

The carnage at the conclusion of the final Insanity catapulted R Truth into this opportunity against the biggest draw in HCW: The Crock. I wouldn’t count out the comical and often confused challenger, though. Truth is hella talented and he arguably has what it takes to give the champion a run for his money.

THE FINAL WEDNESDAY NIGHT WAR

Shot at Tag Titles: The Attraction v. The Hollys

To kick off the final installment of Wednesday Night War, the 3rd ranked Teo and Attitude are poised to take on the 2nd ranked Hardcore and Crash Holly. The Hollys jumped back into this advantageous spot after eeking out an important victory over the formerly second ranked Duct Tape Men last week in the World Tour and now they are determined to jump into title contention, but they must stop the momentum of the angry former champions first!

Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. v. Molly Holly

Molly Holly is riding high after her recent success over Natalya Neidhart. Britt Baker wants to show that she belongs here and wants to teach Molly a lesson for stepping in the way of a new generation talent. I’m excited for this and am ready to see who comes out on top!

Qualification for Global Conflict Match: Rhyno v. Randy Orton

Randy Orton had it out with Rhyno last week as Rhyno tried telling Orton that he doesn’t belong here, especially since he has taken a passive stance in the Global Conflict. Orton sought to remind Rhyno that Rhyno has twisted allegiance himself, but that he doesn’t care about the war because he has his own goals. Rhyno promised to stop Orton and show him the way out, and now we have this important and high stakes match to close the book on Wednesday Night War.

Whoever wins will join Metalhead and Attitude at Global Conflict III in a triple threat match to determine the Undisputed Championship challenger for Wrestlemania X. We all know that Orton is obsessed with first getting back to Dragonfly, but secondly with becoming the Undisputed Champion. I don’t need to remind you of the history between Dragonfly and Rhyno, except to note that Rhyno seemed to bow to the will of his greatest adversary in recent times.

With this match having so much on the line, it will finalize the card for Global Conflict III and will finish the week for the industry on television.

Get ready for a great week!

I will see you all again this weekend!
